So You're Visiting?  -  Looking for a Church?

Community Christian Church Welcomes You

Sunday worship  -  10:00 AM
We are handicapped accessible

Are you a Newcomer?

Perhaps you seek a place to experience the Holy in life, a faith in which you can ground your life, and a Christian community in which you can pursue your spiritual development and that of your family.  Community Christian Church seeks to be such a a fellowship.

Newcomers are often persons seeking a deeper understanding of the meaning of life.  We encourage the search.  We stand ready to search with you.  We interpret the traditions of Christian faith which may speak to your concerns, but we do not prescribe answers for you.  And so we say,

Welcome...       Community Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of North Canton is a warm and inviting Christian community.  I invite you to  learn about us by exploring this web site.  We've included information about our history and beliefs, our program and service opportunities, our church staff, as well as such practical matters as how to find us, where to park, how to find your way around the church building, and how to get involved.

The best way to come to know us, of course, is to participate in worship or in one of our community outreach programs.  I hope to meet you soon.

Warmly,  Dr. Don Baird

Finding your way - What to expect

We're located in North Canton at 210 N. Main St., between the Hoover Company and the Fire Station.  (Map)

ParkingParking is available  in three lots behind the church.  In the paved lot immediately behind the church building there are parking spots reserved for "visitors,' as well as for persons with disabilities.

The building is accessible to persons with disabilities and special hearing devices are available.

Enter the building through the double doors under the canopy.  You will be met by greeters who will direct you to the nursery, Sunday School classrooms, or sanctuary.  The sanctuary is located straight ahead, down the ramp, on the left hand side of the large narthex.  Ushers will greet you as you enter the sanctuary, present a printed order of worship, and answer any questions you may have.

What to expect in Worship.  Ours is an upbeat traditional service characterized by good music provided by a variety of musical instruments and voices, and in a variety of musical genre.  You will receive a warm - but not "in-your-face" - welcome from others in worship. Listen to a sample of our musical ensembles.

Order of Service  The service usually begins with instrumental music and congregational singing.  The children's moment, offering, and a period of prayer follow.  Next you will experience special music presented by the choir or other musicians, the scripture reading, and a Biblically based message presented by Dr. Baird.  Following another hymn, the service climaxes with communion followed by a closing hymn.

The Lord's Supper  Because the New Testament reports that the first Christians celebrated communion whenever they worshiped together, we share the Lord's Supper every Sunday.  Because it is the Lord's Table - not ours! - everyone is welcome to share in the supper, irregardless of denominational background.  On most Sundays the elements of communion (the bread and the cup) are passed through the congregation by the deacons of the church.  In keeping with our belief in "the priesthood of all believers" we serve one another in the pew.

Children in Worship  Nursery care is provided by a professional nursery attendant throughout the service.  Older children begin the hour in worship with their families.  Following the Children's Moment, most of the children leave the sanctuary and go to the children's area for a Bible lesson, story, and craft activity which are an extension of the 9:00 Sunday School program.

Youth Worship  Every other Sunday, middle and high school youth participate in a special youth service located in the youth room in the basement of the church.

Lay Leaders  The leaders of the early church were all lay people, fishermen, tent makers, and the like.  Men and women named Peter, Paul, and Priscilla, and Mark and Mary were all important figures in the church.  In like fashion, ours is a lay-led congregation.  The most visible and dramatic evidence of this is the fact that lay men and women preside over the most holy moment of worship - The Lord's Supper.
