2009 Habitat for Humanity

Our work with Habitat in Canton will continue this year. In 2008 we funded and built a home in partnership with the Faith United Methodist Church of North Canton. For 2009 ground has now been broken on land which we purchased for Habitat.

Two mission trips to New Orleans in 2008

Two groups from Community Christian Church traveled to Covington, LA., one in April 2008 and the other in July. The volunteers worked in the communities of Slidell and LaCombe on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina these communities were smashed by a 25 foot high storm surge off the lake. Lake front homes and businesses were literally wiped off the map. Homes in the poor sections of town and in rural areas were severely damaged by standing water 7 to 9 feet in depth. With support from our churches and more than one million volunteer man hours, the Northshore Disaster Relief Services has rebuilt 700 homes in the Slidell Community. We are now turning our attention to East New Orleans.

New Orleans in 2006

In 2006 a group of 17 traveled to Slidell and worked to rehab five residences in Slidell. In 2008 our two mission teams continued this work. Once again our volunteers were housed in the Grace Disciples of Christ Church in Covington, pastored by the Rev. Laura Fitt Baird, the former Associate Pastor of our congregation. The Rev. Josh Baird is the site coordinator, working with volunteer groups from around the country.

Previous Mission Trips inmclded the All Peoples Christian Center in South Central Los Angeles and the Wala Wala Christian Mission Center near Yakima Wasington.
